I hope you had a great weekend!  A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a candle making workshop at Candlefish in Ponce Market (a cool newish development in Atlanta).  I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve never been to a candle making class in Atlanta (or anywhere else for that matter), but I figured why not?  I knew I would at least get to catch up with several of my blogger friends.

The class actually turned out to be a lot of fun, and idiot-proof considering I’m no Martha Stewart.  Before we dive in, how cute is the store? Candlefish is relatively new to Atlanta, but some of you may recognize it from Charleston.  Basically, they are a custom candle shop (they also sell pre-made candles) with 100 different scents in their Library.

When I arrived, I was quickly outfitted with an apron and a clipboard to note which scents I liked and which ones I didn’t like.  Since I was late (shocker…), I didn’t realize that I was supposed to be taking notes (even though their one-pager was so simple), so I had to do the exercise twice, lol!  I’m so bad a directions sometimes…

For the class, they had scent stations set up all around with candles for us to smell.

Someone mentioned that one of the candles smelled like I sexy man, but I didn’t find that one.  We are all looking for it in the picture above.  I guess I have to go back!

I selected #82, a lavender and thyme scent, which is very fresh and clean and poured it into my wax. A list of all of the scents by category is available here.  Quick tip: If you take the candle making class and don’t want 2 of the same scent, find a friend and trade candles.  I loved my #82, so I wasn’t giving one away, but it would be a fun option for those who want to try more than one.

After a little mixing, I was all ready to go.  This might be the closest to cooking I got that week…

After mixing my scent and the wax, we poured the mixture into the candle jars to set.  They take a few hours to cool and set so we set out to explore the rest of the store and get a bite to eat before coming back to pick them up!

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this, but I love candles, so I went off to see what other candles I might need to add to my collection.

Our candle making class at Candlefish Atlanta was so much fun.  I highly recommend getting a group of girlfriends together and having a fun start to the night, followed by drinks at Ponce City Market.  They even keep your sheet of the scents that you liked and didn’t liked on file so you don’t have to start from scratch the second time around (or you can share it with someone who might buy you a gift).  This may have been my first candle making class in Atlanta, but it probably isn’t my last!
