Glamour on Board: Fashion from Titanic at Biltmore
First of all, sorry for the picture overload! I just couldn’t narrow them down and felt like this exhibit deserved a post all of its own.
The iconic outfit that Kate Winslet wore to board
The detailing was amazing!
Remember Rose and Jack (Kate and Leo) in these outfits?!
Can’t you just imagine them having a great conversation 100 years ago?
If you haven’t read the first part of my Biltmore visit on Monday, check it out here. On Saturday, we woke up early to visit the house and see the Glamour on Board: Fashion from Titanic the Movie exhibit. One thing that we didn’t realize is just how long it takes to get most places on the property. We were getting ready to leave the Inn at 9:40 for our 10AM group tour, but the concierge was nice enough to let us know that we wouldn’t make it. We drove, but next I would probably recommend taking the free shuttle which drops you off right in front of the house and is more convenient.
While I will probably try the guided tour next time I go, we were able to explore at our pace, which was great since there was so much to see. Also, the audio tour that was included in our tickets, was so informative and had a lot of really interesting tidbits. I’m a little bit of a dork. I love a good audio tour.
The Titanic exhibit, which is on display until May 13, features original costumes from the movie set throughout rooms of the house. I remember being in high school and being amazed by how intricate the costumes were. The detailing is every more stunning in real life and complements the detailing of house perfectly. It was fun to imagine people from the early 20th century wearing these clothes as s they explored and stayed in the house.
It was also interesting to learn that the Vanderbilts were originally supposed to be on the Titanic, but decided to come home a week or so early on a different boat. Talk about a lucky change!
The exhibit runs until May 13th if you have the chance to get to Asheville before then. As someone who loves fashion and history, I loved it and would highly recommend it. Which is your favorite outfit?
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
*Disclaimer: I was not paid to write this post, however I did receive compensation in the form of room and tour/tasting tickets c/o Biltmore. As always, all opinions are my own.
