I hope your week is going well! I know a lot of people have resolved to get in better shape this year. I started working out more frequently during my “funployment” time. I’ve always been the person who would cancel a workout if something came up at work or with friends. Basically, I was putting myself last. In my last job, this meant that I made it to the gym once a week if I was lucky. I was stressed and high strung and I started to believe that was just the way I was.
This past summer, I started taking megaformer Pilates classes (I’m obsessed with Stellar Bodies for those in Atlanta!!) and running 2-3x per week. You always hear of people working out to relieve stress. I realized that I’m a much happier, less stressed person when I work out. Maybe it is the endorphin rush? I almost felt like a different person. Now, that I’m back working full-time, I make sure I find time to exercise. I always leave the office to make my 6:30 Stellar Bodies. And you know what? I’ve actually become more efficient at work with that deadline, but more importantly no one cares if I have to get back online later to finish a few things. Also, if I’m a few minutes late to class it isn’t the end of the world. On the days I don’t go to Pilates, I at least try to go for a short walk or do a Tone It Up video.
I’ve found 3 things to help me find time to exercise and stay in shape:
- Put workouts on the calendar like you would an appointment. Make sure you schedule enough time to get ready before your next commitment. If you don’t treat your workouts like a priority, no one else will either.
- At the same time, cut yourself some slack. If I’m not feeling (or hating) my workout after 15 minutes, I tell myself I can go home. 80% of the time, I end up staying, but there are some days when I’m out of the gym after those 15 minutes, lol!
- Make it fun! I’ve become obsessed with Megaformer Pilates and look forward to seeing the same people in class every week. I also enjoying challenging myself to try new classes, especially with friends.
Of course, having cute workout clothes always helps! Before I bought these Nike pants, I bought all of my leggings at Old Navy (which I still love, especially this pair and this pair). However, these Nike leggings are worth every penny! They offer great support when I’m running on the treadmill and have become my favorite pants to workout in. You also can’t go wrong with the color! I’ve linked some other great workout (or gym to brunch!) pieces below.
What are some of your favorite workouts? I’m always looking to try new things!

These are great tips! I definitely put my on the calendar especially if I decided to workout in the middle of the day. It helps a lot when I have a reminder pop up!

I joined the y about two years ago and for me going to one class a week was a big deal, because previously I’d done nothing. Now I’m going to try and go twice a week, and see if I can make it work. It’s definitely a challenge when classes fall at meal times and you’ve got to go home and deal with dinner and it’s nearly 9 pm, but I’m trying my best to make it work and I think going twice a week is really going to start to make a difference in my abilities.

Meal time classes are so hard because I never know exactly what to eat before so I’m not starving in the middle of class or get a cramp from eating too much. I’ve found that meal prepping on the weekends makes it much easier so when I get home at 730, I just have to pop dinner in the microwave and/or make a salad.

Isn’t it crazy how our bodies start to crave working out? When I’m feeling blah, I head to the gym and normally a good workout cures most things.
